Tommy Edwards is a legend in Chicago radio. He has been a member of the city’s radio talent off and on for over 18 years. Tommy was also the stadium voice of the Chicago Bulls and led the NBA in incorporating contemporary music and effects into game presentations. His introduction of songs that are now sports standards can be heard in all aspects of high school, college and professional sports. So every time you go to a game and they play "Rock 'n' Roll Part II" and the crowd yells "Hey!" you can blame Tommy. He was the first to play the song during a sporting event. He was also the first to use the Alan Parsons Project's "Sirius" as an introduction bed. Now both songs are being used throughout the country at various events.“It all started at a 250 watt radio station in Topeka, Kansas. We were just north of the grain elevators near the Kaw River. It was one of the best times I ever had in radio. I made mistakes, learned a ton of things and got the chance to impress girls by being on the radio.” Tommy eventually moved on to Washington, D.C., where he worked at night at a radio station during the era of peace demonstrations and great rock music.
Tommy programmed WLS in Chicago for a year then he went back on the air full-time. He joined Larry Lujack in "Animal Stories" and handled the mid-day shift for the majority of his time in Chicago radio. He later programmed a radio station for NBC and did mornings on an Oldies station.
After spending two years in Boston, Tommy moved to Los Angeles in 1992 to program KCBS-FM. He developed the "Arrow" format so 30 and 40-somethings could remember their glory days of sex, drugs and rock n roll (if they could remember their glory days).
Tommy is back on the air in Chicago with his adorable sidekick, Larry Lujack, on Real Oldies 1690 every weekday morning. They have brought back “Animal Stories” along with new features like “Celebrity Worship” and "Tommy and Larry's Address to the Nation."
